MediaCorp has unveiled the victors of the 2024 edition of the “100 Top Employers in Canada” contest. Established in 2000, this annual event remains a focal point, not only within Canada but also for job seekers nationwide, including newcomers.
The competition seeks to honor organizations that excel in providing outstanding workplaces for their employees, setting industry standards in the process.
What are the selection criteria?
Businesses with a head office or primary place of business in Canada are eligible to participate in the competition. It evaluates participants based on eight selection factors, comparing them with others in their industry. Employers receive letter grades ranging from A to F in each of the following categories:
- Workplace
- Work atmosphere and social factors;
- Health financial and family benefits
- Vacation and time off
- Employee communications
- Performance management
- Training and skills development; and
- Community involvement.
A note on receiving work permit sponsorship from employers
These top employers play a crucial role in helping newcomers build eligibility for economic pathways to permanent residence (PR), depending on the type of work permit they hold. It’s worth noting that many economic pathways mandate at least one year of continuous, skilled work experience in Canada for eligibility, including Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) or Express Entry-managed programs.
Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)-based work permit, on the other hand, ties the work permit to a specific employer and job. Having an open work permit provides newcomers with more flexibility in the job market and may enhance their chances of obtaining permanent residency through various pathways.
